Key Milestone in Mangrove Forest Conservation Project: JMA Representative Attends Strategic Meeting at SES, USM
16 December 2024 - The School of Educational Studies (SES), Universiti Sains Malaysia, hosted the CEO of the Japan Malaysia Association (JMA), the primary sponsor of the groundbreaking project “Conservation of Mangrove Forest via Community-Based Educational Activities for Sustainable Development.” This pivotal visit marked a significant step forward in reviewing the project’s progress and charting the course for its next fiscal phase.
Chaired by Project Leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabiatul Adawiyah Ahmad Rashid, the meeting brought together several members of the esteemed team, including Associate Professor Dr. Shahabuddin Hashim, ChM Dr. Nurjahan Ahmad, Datin Halida Hashim, and several research officers. The two-hour discussion focused on the current achievements of the project, challenges faced, and sustainability strategies for the next phase.
The project aims to conserve the mangrove forest ecosystem through a community-based educational approach. Activities such as awareness workshops, habitat restoration training, and educational programs for local communities have been conducted to enhance knowledge and community involvement in conservation efforts.
The previous evening, JMA received recognition as one of the key contributors to various Universiti Sains Malaysia projects at a gala dinner organized by the Division of Student Affairs and Alumni (BHEPA) in Kuala Lumpur. This recognition reinforces the collaboration between USM and JMA in supporting sustainable development efforts through education and environmental conservation initiatives.
With continued support from JMA, the “Conservation of Mangrove Forest via Community-Based Educational Activities for Sustainable Development” project is expected to create a lasting positive impact, not only on the mangrove forest ecosystem but also on the communities reliant on these natural resources.
