THE 11TH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ COLLOQUIUM 2024: EXPLORING THE IMPORTANCE OF GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURES
MARCH 1, 2024: The 11th International Students’ Colloquium 2024 was held from February 26 to March 1, 2024, at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia, from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The colloquium was officiated by Dean School of Educational Studies Universiti Sains Malaysia, Associate Professor Dr. Rahimi Che Aman and was attended by other guests of Honor, namely advisor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Dr. Nor Asniza Ishak, co-advisor of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Dr. Nurul Fazzuan Khalid, advisor of Hiroshima University, Professor Kusakabe Tatsuya, co-advisor of Hiroshima University, Dr. Asakura Takamichi and senior lecturer of School of Educational Studies, Dr. Syed Mohamad Syed Abdullah.
The colloquium was successfully completed as planned with strong cooperation between both sides. The objectives of the colloquium are to promote mutual understanding and collaboration between the two universities, to collaborate in running programs based on lifelong learning plans that are within the SDGs and are culturally and community related and to encourage students to engage in high-impact collaboration programs. Additionally, the colloquium raises the name of the university internationally by setting an example to foreign universities.
The colloquium involved 11 students from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia and 10 students from Hiroshima University, Japan from various fields of study. With the theme “Global Citizenship for Sustainable Futures”, participants had the opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue, receive feedback from peers and expand their knowledge and skills within their respective areas of interest in the activities includes Students' Intellectual Discourse, Student Presentation, Sports Day, Fieldwork, Mangrove Excursions, Cooking Class, Gamelan Class, and Student Discussions.
Overall, the colloquium was successfully launched on the designated date and time. All participants have given excellent feedback on the colloquium, particularly on the opportunity to discuss thoughts, whether formally or informally, about global challenges in Malaysia and Japan. All participants hope that this program will continue to build mutually beneficial relationships between students at Universiti Sains Malaysia and Hiroshima University.
