On 13 December 2025, USM Master in Counselling students enrolled in the PLK570 Crisis Intervention course visited Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia at Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang. The visit provided meaningful exposure to the role of firefighters as frontline responders in crisis situations. During the visit, students gained a better understanding of the types of incidents commonly handled by firefighters, including fires, accidents, and other high-risk emergencies involving loss of life and property. The session also highlighted the emotional challenges faced by firefighters, particularly when responding to severe and complex incidents. The visit included interviews with firefighters, and En. Rohaizal provided a briefing to help students understand their job scope and operational responsibilities. This experience enhanced trainee counsellors’ understanding of crisis intervention, trauma exposure, and emotional resilience in real-life emergency settings.
